- Limited Navigation Capabilities – Robot vacuums may struggle with navigating around furniture and obstacles, leaving some areas uncleaned.
- Inadequate Suction Power – Some models may not have enough suction power to pick up larger particles and debris, making manual cleaning still necessary.
- Expensive Upfront Cost – Robot vacuums can be quite pricey, especially the top-of-the-line models.
- Limited Battery Life – Most robot vacuums can only run for a limited time before they need to be recharged, meaning they may not clean the entire house in one go.
- Noise Level – Some robot vacuums can be quite loud, making them disruptive to your daily activities.
Vacuum, mop, hybrid or separate vacuum and mop? How to choose a floor robot
It’s a tough decision to make when choosing the right floor robot for your home, especially when you have carpets, hard floors or both! The answer to this question really depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you’re looking for convenience, a hybrid/dual model might be the best option. This type of robot can vacuum and mop your floors all in one, saving you time and energy. If you’re looking for more specialised cleaning, however, it might be better to get separate vacuum and mop models. This way, you can get the most thorough cleaning possible for both your carpets and hard floors. Ultimately, the decision comes down to your budget, preferences and cleaning needs. So take a moment to consider what you want from your floor robot, and then make an informed choice that will keep your home looking and feeling spotless.
How do I choose a robotic vacuum cleaner?
Choosing a robotic vacuum cleaner can seem like a daunting task, but it’s actually quite simple when you know what to look for! Here are some key factors to consider when selecting the best robot vacuum for your home:
- Navigation system – Does the robot have a mapping system that allows it to clean in an organised and efficient manner? A good navigation system will ensure that the vacuum covers every corner of your home without missing any spots.
- Suction power – Make sure the vacuum has enough suction power to effectively pick up dirt and debris. Consider the type of flooring you have, as well as any pets that may leave hair or fur behind.
- Battery life – Consider the battery life of the robot vacuum. A longer battery life will allow the robot to clean for longer periods without needing to be recharged.
- Dustbin size – A larger dustbin will allow you to clean more before needing to empty it.
- Noise level – If you’re planning to run the robot vacuum while you’re sleeping or during the day, consider the noise level of the machine. Some robots are designed to be quiet, while others are louder.
- Features – Some robotic vacuums come with additional features such as HEPA filters, auto-docking, and more. Decide what features are important to you and look for a robot vacuum that includes them.
By considering these factors, you’ll be able to choose the perfect robotic vacuum cleaner for your home and enjoy a cleaner, more stress-free life!

What features should I look for in a robot vacuum?
When looking for a robot vacuum, it’s essential to consider several key features to ensure you get the best cleaning experience. Here are some of the most critical aspects to keep in mind:
- Navigation system: A robot vacuum should have a smart navigation system that can effortlessly map out your home and clean every corner. Look for features like laser navigation or optical sensors that help the vacuum avoid obstacles and clean efficiently.
- Suction power: The suction power of a robot vacuum is essential for picking up dirt, debris, and pet hair. Look for models with high suction power to ensure deep cleaning every time.
- Battery life: A longer battery life will give your robot vacuum more time to clean your home, and you’ll have to recharge it less often.
- HEPA filtration: If you have allergies or asthma, a robot vacuum with HEPA filtration is a must-have. It will help remove particles and allergens from the air to keep your home clean and healthy
- Voice control: Voice control makes it easy to start and stop your robot vacuum without having to get up. Features like Amazon Alexa or Google Home compatibility make controlling your robot vacuum a breeze.
- Remote control: If you prefer not to use voice control, look for a robot vacuum with a remote control that gives you full control over your cleaning experience.
In conclusion, when choosing a robot vacuum, look for a model that offers a smart navigation system, powerful suction, long battery life, HEPA filtration, voice control, and a remote control. With these features, you can ensure you get the best cleaning experience and keep your home spotless.
Which is the best robot vacuum cleaner to buy?
If you’re looking for the best robot vacuum cleaner, here’s what you need to keep in mind. Firstly, it’s important to buy from a reputable brand. With so many options in the market, choosing a well-known brand that has a good track record will ensure that you get a quality product.
Next, look for a robot vacuum cleaner with good online reviews. Read what other people have to say about their experiences with the product, especially when it comes to its cleaning abilities, battery life, and navigation.
Also, consider the size of your home and the power of the robot vacuum cleaner. If you have a large home, you’ll want something with enough battery life to cover the entire space, and enough power to effectively clean all surfaces.
Finally, think about the features you need. Do you want something with a mapping system, or do you prefer a simpler design? Do you want something with a HEPA filter, or is that not important to you? Answering these questions will help you find the best robot vacuum cleaner for your needs.
How much does a robot vacuum cost?
Break out what you get in a more budget price range; say under $200, then mid-range 250-500, Expensive (500-800) and luxury (+$800) and make sure the luxury range covers Roborock S7 Max V Ultra, Roborock S8 Pro Ultra with RockDock, and Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni

Best Robot Vacuums
What Every Robot Vacuum SHOULD have
When you’re deciding on a robot vacuum, there are some features you can’t live without. You wouldn’t buy a car that didn’t have front seats, a steering wheel, or an engine. You certainly shouldn’t buy a robot vacuum that doesn’t have a battery and one that lasts a decent length of time. You also want to ensure your choice has removable filters (best case washable filters), and a decent amount of power. Drop prevention sensors are a must if you have a home with stairs or level changes.
On the tech side of things, you want to make sure the robot vacuum has an app that allows for remote operation through your phone or device. It should also have a scheduling option so you can fully automate the cleaning process. Finally, you’ll want a vacuum that has basic mapping, one that learns what your place looks like, to speed things up and allow you to clean specific areas in a hurry.
What Makes a Great Robot Vacuum?
Now that we know the basics, let’s talk about top-notch features, things that separate the great from the good. While most robot vacuums are battery-powered, look for one that has the ability to run for at least 90 minutes. Some on our list can last two hours or more, so don’t settle for a model than only runs for an hour and then needs a recharge.
Next up is noise. Vacuuming is one of the loudest home cleaning activities, but some models are quieter than others, check your decibel levels before buying. Many models also have the ability to dial the power level up or down, which can also affect the sound level.
The ability to manage transitions from carpet to tile or linoleum is also important. If your robot vacuum struggles to pick up pet hair, crumbs or leaves dirt or water behind, it’s not up to the task. Look for companies that have put effort into cleaning power.
Finally, With technology advancing, many models are now able to both vacuum and mop your floors. Why settle for just dry dirt when you pick up a multipurpose robot cleaner.
Top 10 Robot Vacuums
1. Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni
Best Overall
Pros
- Attractive dock (Omni station)
- Huge water tanks
- Powerful mop has self-cleaning and heated auto-drying
Cons
- Omni station takes up a lot of space
- Definitely an investment (if not on sale)
Of all of the robot vacuum models we’ve tested, the Ecovacs X1 Omni comes out on top. It’s so versatile, we’re calling it a floor cleaning centre. It does a great job of both vacuuming and mopping, and has adjustable suction, motor, and water flow, allowing you to tweak things to fit your space. Crucially, this version has a scrubbing mop, thanks to dual swirling mopping plates, and it will return to its base, wash and dry the mopping pads, and empty its internal dustbin. Plus it’s got a sleek look that make it look less like a plastic hulk. It’s also a quiet machine, with a long lasting battery, and it’s supported by a great app and has a solid voice assistant that you can talk directly with—no Google or Alexa needed (unless you want that). With the Ecovacs DEEBOT X1 OMNI, you’re not only getting a powerful cleaning robot but one with a range of convenient features too. There’s its attractive storage and charging dock that looks great on any floor. It also has an impressive ‘do-it-all’ ethos – whether it’s the dried coffee stains in the kitchen, dust in the corners, or pet hair beneath sofas – its little yet powerful vacuum and scrub is up to the task. Plus, no need to worry about messy filters; its fully-automated self-cleaning and dust collection system takes care of that for you!
The only downside? A slightly hefty price tag coupled with its equally bulky size. But besides this, if you’re after a vacuum that does it all without breaking the bank or taking up loads of space, then look no further – the Ecovacs DEEBOT X1 OMNI is definitely one of the best vacuums for most people!

2. iRobot e5
Best Budget Pick
If you’re looking to test the waters of robot vacuuming, and you don’t want to spend a lot, the iRobot Roomba e5 might be your perfect fit. It’s loaded with cleaning power and has most of the features you’d be getting with the top-end models. It’s voice assistant equipped, has a “spot clean” mode, and is able to handle most floor transitions. Read my full review of iRobot e5 here. Its price has come down a lot so this would be a good price point to get you into the robot vacuum world to see if it’s for you.
Pros
- Budget-friendly and simple
- Voice control over Google Assistant or Alexa
Cons
- Lacks smart features
The iRobot e5 is a great choice for anyone looking for a budget-friendly and simple robot vacuum that can be easily voice-controlled. It also has scheduled cleaning, so you can simply set it and forget it.
However, those looking for additional features might want to look at more advanced models from iRobot. For example, its lack of active navigation hardware such as cameras or radar means it does its cleaning blind. It feels its way around the house, softly bumping into furniture and wall trims. So, if you tend to have cords, keys, and other important things on the floor, it may get sucked into the dustbin or even tangle with the brush.
3. iRobot i3+ EVO
Best Budget Bot runner up
Pros
- Budget bot; affordable
- Comes with an automatic dirt disposal dock
Cons
- Gets stuck way more than other bots
The iRobot i3+ EVO (which we review in full here) is a budget-friendly robot vacuum; there’s no way around that. This means it lacks a lot of the features in a lot of the higher-end vacuums out there. However, one feature that it has over other budget-friendly vacuums is that it comes with an automatic dirt disposal dock, so you don’t have to worry about emptying the dustbin after every use. One critical area where it shines, though, is in its cleaning capabilities. Its suction is definitely strong enough to get debris off your floors and carpets with no hassle.
One drawback to the iRobot i3+ EVO is that it tends to get stuck more often than other robot vacuums on the market. This can be frustrating if you’re trying to clean quickly and efficiently.
4. iRobot j7+
Best Vacuum Only Model
While some of the robot vacuums on our list can multi-task by mopping too, if you’re looking for a vacuum-only model, the iRobot Roomba j7+ is a great candidate. This model features smart mapping, and scheduling with the ability to clean certain rooms on certain days, and comes with a compact Clean Base unit that automatically empties the dustbin each time it cleans. It’s also able to detect and avoid hazards like fallen socks, cords and cables and, crucially, pet waste.
Pros
- Hazard recognition (Poop detection)
- Automatic schedule suggestions
- Integrates well with iRobot M6 Mop
Cons
- No more spot cleaning
- Mopping sold separately
The iRobot Roomba j7+ is a powerful robot vacuum that offers an impressive range of features, making it one of the best robot vacuums on the market. Its hazard recognition technology allows it to detect and avoid obstacles such as pet poop, cords, or underpants that previous iRobot Vacuums were notorious for running over and smearing all over the place.
Its automatic schedule suggestions make it easy to set up and maintain a regular cleaning routine. It also integrates well with the iRobot M6 mop, allowing you to combine vacuuming and mopping for a more thorough clean.
Unfortunately, the j7+ does not feature spot cleaning as some other models do. Additionally, the mopping function is sold separately.
Its geofencing capabilities are great, allowing the unit to sense when you’re in the area, and stop cleaning until later. Check out the full review of the j7+ to learn more.
5. Roborock S7 Max V Ultra with Empty Wash Fill Dock
Best High Tech Docking Station
The Roborock S7 Max V Ultra is a multipurpose vacuum and mop. Not only does it do a great job of cleaning your floors, and includes a built-in camera for monitoring, but it’s also amazing at cleaning itself when the job is done.
Pros
- Almost completely autonomous maintenance
- The Roborock app is easy to use
- Adjustable suction and scrubbing
- Doubles as roving security camera
Cons
- Huge slightly unsightly base station
- Definitely on the high-end price-wise
- No mop drying
The Roborock S7 Max V Ultra is a great choice for robot vacuums, with its intuitive smart features, such as mobile applications making its operation seamless. No matter how delicate the flooring or carpet may be, this powerful vacuum has enough dynamic scrubbing power to clean effectively without damaging them. It also automatically retracts the mop when passing through carpets and rugs, so they don’t get damp.
The main downsides are its enormous docking station, hefty price tag, and lack of self-drying function for the mop. But if you’re looking for robust technology and power in a robot vacuum cleaner, the Roborock S7 Max V Ultra could be your top pick.
The docking station acts as a full-service car wash for your vacuum. The base station will remove dust and debris from the vacuum’s onboard dustbin, refill the mop’s onboard water tank, and then run a full cleaning cycle on the mop pads. I got to spend a few weeks with this powerful device and the full review of the Roborock S7 Max V Ultra with Empty Wash Fill Dock is here.
6. Roborock S7
Best Deep Cleaning
The Roborock S7 has all of the features you’d expect on a top-end robot vacuum, but where it really excels is in its sonic mopping technology. Unlike most mopping robots, the Roborock S7 vibrates as it mops, adjustable between 1,650 to 3,000 times per minute. It has an option for Deep Mopping, allowing you to target areas in the home that need special attention. It also has VibraRise, which lifts the mopping plates when carpets are detected. This bot, when purchased without the Empty Wash Fill Dock can still be a powerful cleaning partner, and then of course you could upgrade to the full dock later.
7. iRobot Braava Jet M6
Best Dedicated Mop
Pros
- Dedicated mop
- Can be integrated with other iRobot vacuums
- Comes with washable or disposable pads
Cons
- Pad cost can add up
- Seems dated in light of vacuum + mop hybrids
- No scrubbing power
The iRobot Braava Jet M6 (review here) is a dedicated mop designed specifically for hard floors – and it can be integrated with other iRobot vacuums too. This seamless integration allows you to combine vacuuming and mopping for even better results. Moreover, it comes with washable or disposable pads that make cleaning up much easier.
On the downside, these pads can be quite costly over time – especially if you opt for the disposable ones. Additionally, some of its features may seem a bit dated in comparison to newer vacuum + mop hybrids available on the market. And despite its superior mopping capabilities, it lacks any scrubbing power, which might be a concern for those with stubborn messes to clean.
8. Shark AI Self-empty XL vacuum
Best bagless auto-empty stationPros
- Effective A.I.-assisted and Lidar smart mapping and navigation
- Easy scheduling feature
- Bagless dustbin design means no worry about replacing bags
Cons
- Lacks mop function present in other similarly-priced vacuums
- Glitchy app often logs users out, making it a hassle to log back in
The Shark AI Self empty XL vacuum is a great choice for anyone looking for an easy-to-use, A.I.-assisted robot vacuum with smart mapping and navigation capabilities. Its scheduling feature is also convenient and allows you to set up cleaning times accordingly. Plus, its bag-less design requires minimal maintenance and is less expensive than other models.
However, the Shark AI Self empty XL does have some drawbacks. It lacks a mop function, and the app can be glitchy at times, which can make operation more difficult.
9. iRobot Roomba s9+
Pros
- Integration with the M6 mop
- Keep out zones and smart mapping
- PerfectEdge Technology gets right up against trim, furniture, and walls
Cons
- Dated design
- Still gets stuck
The integration of the iRobot Roomba S9+ with the M6 mop is particularly impressive. This allows you to use the S9+ in tandem with the robot mop, giving you a more thorough clean. The Keep Out Zones and Smart Mapping are also great features that allow you to customize where the S9+ cleans and what areas it avoids.
The PerfectEdge Technology is also very useful for getting right up against trim, furniture, and walls without leaving any dirt behind. This ensures that your floors are thoroughly cleaned every time.
The only catch is that the design and software of the S9+ are somewhat dated compared to other robot vacuums on the market. It can still get stuck in certain places due to its outdated software and lack of hardware. But, if you’re looking for a simple vacuum that has an automatic dirt disposal feature and mapping technologies, then you’re looking in the right direction with the S9+. Check out the full review of the iRobot s9+ here.
10. Yeedi Vac 2 Pro
Best Sleeper Pick for Amazing Mopping
I’m surprised how much I like this bot and love the mopping in particular. The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro (read the full review or watch the video here) uses a scrubbing mopping plate that works itself back and forth over your floor to truly scrub dirt free. With my two dogs, it’s a very effective mopping device and I have absolutely no complaints about it. The vacuum was also really effective at picking up all my debris challenges on both carpeted areas and hard floors. The battery lasted amazingly well for me and it was able to clean my whole home on a single charge easily.
Pros
- Scrubbing mop is very effective
- Voice control
- Adjustable suction and water flow
Cons
- Glitchy smart mapping function
- Dustbin tends to clog
The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro is a robot vacuum and mop combo with a lot of useful features. It has adjustable suction and water flow, as well as a hybrid vacuum and mop combo for highly detailed cleaning. The scrubbing mop is also very effective at removing dirt and grime from floors.
However, the Yeedi Vac 2 Pro does have some drawbacks. Its room dividing and smart map organization can be glitchy at times, which can make it difficult to keep your house clean in an organized manner. Additionally, the dustbin tends to clog constantly, making it hard to empty out frequently enough, and it doesn’t auto-empty the bin as often as it should.
When it comes to downsides, I found the map to be a bit glitchy when it came to managing rooms and spaces. And the dust bin was not extremely effective at fully emptying itself as I would’ve liked.
Even so I think this robot vacuum and mop is an awesome addition to my home and I personally would love to keep this in my home for good.
It sells for about $449USD and you can get it from Yeedi’s website or Amazon. My full review is coming soon.
Bonus Pick: Dreame D10
Best for long battery life
Pros
- Quick and accurate mapping
- Long runtime
- Self-emptying dock is quite effective
Cons
- Dodgy voice control
- Tends to run over obstacles
The Dreame robot vaccum has fast mapping technology that’s quite advanced, making one of the fastest and most accurate in the market. However, its obstacle detection systems don’t seem to be too well designed as it tends to run over and through them instead of going around them. So, you better be careful about loose smartphone cords and clothes lying around as they may get destroyed. And while the mop is quite effective at fully lifting dust from the floor, its lack of scrubbing motion renders it useless against stubborn floor stains.
However, it does have a long battery life going for it. This allows for longer cleaning sessions without needing to recharge. The self-empty station is also very useful and efficient. Moreover, the adjustable vacuum power and mopping levels are great for tackling different types of dirt and messes.
Dreame bot has some glaring limitations, which put it at the bottom of our list. Voice control can be difficult to get working properly, and it tends to get stuck more often than other brand bots. This means you need to watch over the bot when cleaning, defeating the purpose of automating your home cleaning and maintenance work. Furthermore, you may also need to remove mopping plates in carpeted areas so as not to get your carpet damp and smelly.
We hope you’ve learned a bit about what makes for a great robot vacuum, and a little about the best models on the market. If you’re new to the game, it’s time to jump in and try it out. If you have a robot vacuum already, hopefully, you’ve picked up some tips on what to look for in your next purchase.
