I’ve recently been trying out diffusing at home. For those who may not know, diffusing is the process of adding essential oils to water, and having it ultrasonically dispersed into the air.

The result is the air smells nice, but the water adds a bit of humidity to the air too. Different oils are said to make you feel more relaxed (lavender), energized (citrus), awake (rosemary), or can help you breathe a bit better (eucalyptus).

I have to say I’ve been enjoying diffused oils in the air. I’ve been using the Aukey BE-A11 diffuser. It’s about the size of a cantaloupe, round, with a flat spot on top and it also has colour-changing light settings that cast a soft glow from the unit.

The light’s not bright enough to read from so it’s more ambient, but it’s a nice addition to the diffuser.

Aukey BE-A11 diffuser set up

There’s almost no setup involved in getting the Aukey BE-A11 up and running. Plug it in, fill the reservoir with tap water using the included measuring cup, add a few drops of essential oil and turn it on. You can set the device to run for an hour, up to three hours before shutting off automatically, or leave it on and it will run until the tank is empty before shutting off (approximately 8-10 hours). The light will turn out too once the tank is empty.

This particular model is a matte white plastic globe shape that looks simple, sleek and modern.

The diffuser works well, and uses ultrasonic technology to disperse the water and oil as a fine cool mist. (Read more about ultrasonic diffusing technology in this article)
The device is powerful enough to scent a small room, but it’s most noticeable, not surprisingly, the closer you are to the diffuser. The potency can change depending too on how much oil you use, the strength of the oil blend and in some cases the particular scent you choose.

Overall review of Aukey BE-A11 essential oil diffuser

I’ve been enjoying the oil diffusing experience at home. I add different scents to the water depending on my mood and if I’m trying to wake myself up, chill out or battling allergies.

The Aukey BE-A11 is a good size, modern looking and easy to operate. It is wide and stable so there’s no risk of it tipping over.

As far as essential oil diffusers go, I’d definitely recommend the Aukey BE-A11. It sells for $34-49 CAD on Amazon.
