Review: Yeedi Vac 2 Pro vacuum-mop: The best mop on the market, but with a major flaw

If you’re looking for a robot vacuum or dual vacuum and mop, you know by now there’s a tonne of brands and models. While there are some big names that get a lot of attention they have big price tags to match. One of the lesser known brands I’ve come across is Yeedi. While the brand is known for it’s lower cost options, so far I’ve found the bots pretty capable. Today I’m looking at the Yeedi Vac 2 Pro. In my hands on, in-home review, I’ll look at what this bot can do, how well it cleans, what kind of special features it has and if I can recommend it for you.

What is Yeedi Vac 2 Pro?

Simply put this is a dual vacuum and mopping robot with a self emptying vacuum base and charging station. The key innovation with this one is that it uses a scrubbing mopping plate underneath, and that’s suppose to mean a deeper more thorough clean.

Yeedi also says this bot has 3D obstacle avoidance and carpet detection while in mopping mode to keep the wet mop off your rugs.

What’s in the box?

The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro comes in two boxes, with a few parts and pieces and does need very basic assembly.

In the smaller box it the vacuum, and it comes with a simple recharging dock that you can use, if you don’t opt for the self emptying station.

Also in here is the new mopping plate which consists of a water tank and reusable ?? mopping pad. There’s also a corner brush you’ll need to snap onto the bot.

In the bigger box is the self emptying station. There’s the base plate, plus an extension ramp if yo’ll be setting it on carpet… it’s optional and most homes won’t really need it.

You’ll get an extra vacuum bag to use with the dustbin, plus your power cord. There’s also a tiny screwdriver in here too but I’m not sure what that’s for… With the accessories unpacked from the box you’ll see the round base station. There should be a bag already inside it for you to start with. Just click the bin onto the base, plug it in and get your bot charging.

What is the difference between yeedi vac 2 pro and yeedi vac/vac max/vac station?

This robotic vacuum cleaner is an upgraded version of the yeedi vac series, which adds 3D obstacle avoidance and Oscillating Mopping function on the basis of the original functions. Yeedi calls it “more powerful and comprehensive.”

Set up

While your bot is charging download the Yeedi app and log into or sign up for an account. The app makes it super easy to add your bot; the app will show you how to turn the bot on and set it in pairing more, then walk you through connecting it to your home’s Wi-Fi. In less than 5 minutes I was connected.

Mapping and smarts

The first order of business is to map your home. The app will prompt you to do this and it will quietly roam your home, using its tech to draw a detailed map of your space. (Worth noting that for now it will only store one floorplan, but later this summer Yeedi says a firmware update will allow additional storey of the home to be added.)

The Vac 2 Pro did map my space accurately immediately.

You can divide up your spaces more accurately in the map, and apply labels for each room. This will help with room-specific cleaning or voice control.

Glitchy room division

In my testing the app was very finicky at letting me divide my spaces up, and I constantly got messages saying “please adjust the dividing line” and “make sure the dividing line intersects with the room at two points. The weird little dividing line was not intuitive to manoeuvre. The glitchy feature meant I was unable to divide my largest spaces; the kitchen, living room and dining room.

Features

Adding Voice Control: Google or Alexa

I can say it was very easy to add Google home and Google assistant functionality to my robot. Getting this set up requires you to go into the Google home app, and add a device. Search for the Yeedi brand and then tap to link your account. In about 30 seconds I was set up and ready to go.

Vacuum or mop: but with actual scrubbing

This robot has two distinct functions. If the vacuum dust bin is installed, the robot will be in what’s called vacuum only mode. That means it will go all over your house, across carpet and hard floors, and vacuum your spaces. If you want it to mop instead, you need to swap the vacuum dust bin for the mopping plate and tank.

When in mopping mode, the Yeedi Vac 2 Pro is supposed to avoid carpets to keep them from getting dampened. I can confirm this is true from my testing: the bot carefully avoided venturing onto rugs while the mop was scrubbing.

The scrubbing mop is actually a cool innovation (and watch my review video above to see it scrub stains off the floor with ease!). Past robot mops simply drag a damp rag across your floors, but the Yeedi Vac 2’s plate oscillates back and forth quickly, to truly scrub your floors clean. I did see a noticeable improvement in the wet mopping this bot was able to do.

A feature I really like in a robot floor cleaner is the ability to adjust suction and water flow. Adjustable suction means you can schedule a lower power clean if you’re Zooming, or a deeper clean while you’re out. Changing the water flow can also help scrub dried on dirt away more effectively.

A couple other features this bot has worth mentioning: You can set a cleaning sequence; in other words you can choose what order of rooms it will clean in and if you want it to go over an area twice.

Custom clean zones

If you want to do spot cleaning or to give a special once over to high traffic areas, you can use what’s called a custom clean. This option will allow you to place an adjustable boundary around a certain area of the home, and then it will send the bot right there.

Cleaning log

If you want to double check where your floor cleaner has been, you can check the cleaning log. It will confirm for you the dates and times that it went out, and exactly which areas were cleaned by showing you these areas on the map.

How well does Yeedi Vac 2 Pro clean?

I put all my vacuums through the same tests; I get them to sweep up finer things like flour or sugar, middle sized bits like rice or oatmeal and bigger cracker pieces, on both carpet and hard floors. With mopping I’ll let them clean dog paw prints or dried coffee.
Let’s start with the mopping.

I was blown away by the effectiveness of this mop. The scrubbing plate is really good at pulling dirt from my floors and was particularly effective at cleaning during a muddy week when the dogs were tracking dirt into the house. The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro was able to mop my floors clean every time.

One thing I didn’t like is that the bot can’t tell when the mopping tank is empty. It will give you a default reminder every time it completes a clean to refill the mopping tank and replace the pad, but it doesn’t have any kind of sensors, so if you’re not paying attention, or you’re using them off a lot, you may run dry and won’t necessarily know it. The fix here I suppose is to ensure you rinse and refill the mopping tank after every outing or two.

When it comes to the vacuuming, there’s 3000Pa of suction power (and it will lower to a mere 200Pa for a quieter clean). I was actually extremely impressed at how well it picked up all my debris challenges, and what it might miss on one pass, it usually gets on subsequent passes. It was easily able to manage the finer dust, and bigger stuff too and by the time it had finished it had truly picked up pretty much every last crumb.
When the bot is full, it should return to the dock to evacuate its onboard dustbin into the sealed bag in the base station. There is a 2.5L dust bag inside and, yeedi says this locks 30 days of dirt. My testing was just over two weeks, and the bag did not appear anywhere close to full.

Dustbin not emptying properly; constant clogs

I will note that as I was doing some maintenance on the bot I noticed the onboard dustbin was very full. I used the app to empty the bin—twice—but nothing happened. I ended up removing the onboard dust bin and manually emptying it, thinking there was a clog of some kind that was preventing the bot from self evacuating.

The next time I did a cleanup and manually prompted the bot to empty the dustbin, it again left a good amount of the debris inside. I’m not sure if this is a design flaw or what…I ran another few of tests and the same thing happened; it seems to me the outlets can get clogged up with pet hair in particular… leading to it not emptying or only partially emptying…

So I think two things are actually at play here; since it impressively picked up a full bin of dirt in about 20 minutes, it might not be going back to unload as often as it should, and if it gets too full it struggles to empty itself..

I found a setting that opts for more frequent emptying and even with that enabled it was just not emptying…

Obstacle avoidance: leaves something to be desired

The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro boasts obstacle avoidance saying it “senses and dodges daily objects, shoes/pet bowls/kids toys/socks, in its way. A true helper for families with pets and kids.”

In my experience that wasn’t quite accurate. I found it would push pet toys around (watch the video), it wasn’t skirting things like dog dishes very well, and it rolled right over a phone charging cord.

Battery life & charging: big battery, long life

The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro, unlike some other bots won’t give you estimates about how long a clean will take, but it does have a large 5200mAh battery. Yeedi says this should equal about 220 minutes or 3 hours, 40 miutes on a charge. No obviously this will depend on if you’re using the vacuum at max power or lowest power, and what kind of cleaning challenges it may be facing. In my testing it never seemed to run out of battery. The main floor of my house is about 1000 ft.² and it was easily able to clean it on a single charge.

I will say the recharging time, though it didn’t really become a factor for me, is significant. He says a full charge will take over 6 1/2 hours. When you balance that long charging time with the ultralong battery life, it does make sense and doesn’t seem out of line. Also when you consider that the robot will live on its base and remain charging any time it’s not working, this should not really be an issue for all but the most massive of homes.

Overall review: Yeedi Vac 2 Pro

Overall, I’m surprised at how much I like this bot and love the mopping. With my two dogs, it’s a very effective mopping device and I have absolutely no complaints about it.

The vacuum was also really effective at picking up all my debris challenges on both carpeted areas and hard floors. The battery lasted amazingly well for me and it was able to clean my whole home on a single charge easily.

When it comes to downsides, I found the map to be a bit glitchy when it came to managing rooms and spaces. And the dust bin was not extremely effective at fully emptying. Since this was an ongoing problem it’s a bit of a red flag for me.  I’m torn – this is easily the best mop on the market, but when the vacuum struggles and doesn’t empty properly, that affects its ability to pick up more dirt, and this trouble makes the whole device kind of 50% less useful. For that reason I’m not going to be recommending it until the dustbin emptying improves.
