A printer can always be handy. Even though so much of our world is digital and it seems on the surface we don’t have a lot of reasons to want to print things, when you need a print out of an airline ticket, a list to take with you, or you need to sign a contract, sometimes having a printer can be very convenient. I recently bought the HP DeskJet 3755 to test out and review for my home office. In this review I’ll tell you about the set up process, with the printer can and can’t do, what the print quality is like for documents and photos, and if I can recommend it for you.

Let’s start with a close look at the HP DeskJet 3755…

This is a printer with quite a small footprint. It also comes in cute tropical colour combinations making it a bit of a bright spot for your home office. The printer will print, copy, scan, and do wireless printing including Apple air print. You can also use it to connect to HPs instant ink program which will automatically send you ink cartridges just before you run out.
Set up
Getting this printer set up was mercifully easier than previous HP printers I have installed. I was able to get it connected to my home Wi-Fi and then able to print from both my iphone and my Apple MacBook Pro right away. In some cases you may need to install a certain printer drivers as I did previously, but this printer appears to work just fine with what I have. In just a few minutes it was printing.
Print quality: HP DeskJet 3755
One of the great things about this printer is that it is super compact. The paper sticks out the back of the printer so the footprint is actually quite small. A printed documents tray is hidden underneath and flips out to catch your printouts. Without it chances are high your papers will shoot the surface.
I printed documents, and I can conform it prints pretty fast fast! From time to hitting print to it activating was less than 5 seconds. A full page of black takes about 9 or 10 seconds . Colour takes a bit longer. The print quality has been really good; clear, legible and no smudging or blurring.
You can use 8.5×11 paper or go up to 8×14-inch. It also supports Various sizes from 3×5 in to 8.5×14 in including letter, legal, 4×6 in, 5×7 in, 8×10 in & No 10 envelopes
Photo printing: HP DeskJet 3755
This printer can also print high quality photos on dedicated photo paper. You need to manually load the paper in the back, and you can load multiple sheets at once and it will only take what it needs.
Photo printing probably understandably take a while longer than a standard page; here it’s about 90 seconds per photo, which does feel very long. Even so, the photo quality is actually pretty good. The colours seem accurate and to match the original photo well.
Important to note if you exit the HP Print app before the photo is fully printed, it seems to disconnect and you’ll be left with half a photo, and some wasted ink too.
Unfortunately I was not able to print photos straight from my “photos” app on my iPhone. The interface would just hang there and never advance or execute the print command. That was actually really annoying since it meant I was forced to use the HP Print app where I couldn’t view the dates on my photos. The HP Print app lets you do a few more taskss and adjust settings too.
When it came to copying and scanning, the HP 4155e worked well; documents feed in easily for copies, or you can scan them to your phone or computer with the HP app. Conversely, you can take a photo of a document on the phone and then print it on the 4155e too.

One of the maddening things about this printer is that I ran out of colour ink almost instantly.
I presume this is something HP does on purpose to either force you into the instant ink program, or to sell you new ink cartridge is almost immediately. I think I probably got about a dozen documents in colour before the color cartridge ran dry, and the black ink wasn’t far behind. Be warned, you’ll need ink within about 2 weeks after purchasing this printer, based on my use and testing. After that first starter cartridge, I assume you’ll get better mileage but I gotta say that’s no way to make an introduction, HP.

Overall review: HP DeskJet 3755 all in one printerFor the most part, the HP DeskJet 3755 works like a dream. This is a great printer, and can match speed with other printers of the same size and type. The printer itself is light, easy to move, it does photos and different sizes of document and it doesn’t take up a lot of space.
I’d recommend this printer particularly for an office where the bulk of printing will be done from dedicated computers, and are mostly document in black and white. Even so it’s capable at colour and multi-page document management too. Downsides? Mine didn’t play well with my iPhone photos app for printing… and I do wish this one could print two-sided, but it won’t. And I was kind of miffed that the included ink cartridge was basically good for a handful of pages. Even so, I can recommend the HP 3755 to you for your small-space home office needs.
