how to change name apple airpods, display name

Did you just get a sweet new pair of Apple Airpods or Apple Airpods 2? Congrats! Yours may have come with a generic display name when they show up on your phone or in your settings menu, and perhaps you want to rename your Airpods so you don’t get them mixed up with anyone else’s in the house, or office. Here’s how to change the display name of your AirPods, or to give your AirPods a custom name:

Re-name or Change the Display Name of Your Apple AirPods

  1. Go to your phone’s settings menu
  2. Select Bluetooth. Tap to connect to your AirPods, if they’re not already connected.
  3. Scroll through and tap the “i” to the right of the AirPods that appear in the list.
  4. Select the name.
  5. Enter your new name.

That’s it! In the settings menu here you can also make a few other adjustments. You can change what a double tap on each bud does, from skipping tracks, to play/pause, or even invoking Siri. You can also turn Automatic Ear Detection on or off. This feature will turn your Apple Airpods on and connnect automatically to your iPhone when you open the case and place them in your ears. Very handy! There’s also a setting for choosing which bud’s microphone will be used, also convenient if you like to roll with just one AirPod in at a time.

Apple Airpods or the new Apple AirPods 2 are a very convenient and seamless way to connect to your Apple iPhone, since they’ll link up as soon as you put them in. They’re designed to work perfectly with all Apple devices, so if you have an iPhone, iPad, or Macbook, these earbuds are a great choice.
