New BioLite gear, FirePit, review, grill lid, griddle, alpenglow, toolkitBy Dave Ware

BioLite makes some of the coolest camping and off-grid gear on the market. I’ve owned a BioLite CampStove and FirePit (read my BioLite FirePit review here) for years and love them both. This season, BioLite introduced some new gadgets; some designed to make the FirePit even more versatile, and the others to keep you lit up. Need compact gear? Check out my review of BioLite CampStove bundle.

BioLite ‘s new gear for camping

BioLite AlpenGlow portable wireless lighting

Biolight has released AlpenGlow, a multicolor USB Lantern that comes in a smaller 250 and larger 500-lumen models. Like most of BioLight’s products, they’re aimed at making your camping or outdoor experience easier, but these lanterns will fit in perfectly at home too. They’re durable, rainproof, and have several light features for different situations and moods.

The 250-lumen AlpenGlow is about 3 inches in diameter and 3.7 inches tall; you should be able to grip it easily with one hand. The 500-lumen model is 3.8 inches in diameter and 5.4 inches tall, still easy to grip, though the height might make it trickier to one-hand it.

AlpenGlow Light Modes

The AlpenGlow has four standard lighting modes, each of which has a secondary feature when you shake the lantern. The Cool White mode becomes a single sidelight when you shake the lantern, perfect for situations when you don’t need light all around you. The Warm White mode becomes a candle flicker, adding ambiance and atmosphere to your evening. The Single Colour mode (red, green, blue) begins cycling through the three colors upon shaking. The Multicolor mode (slowly morphs between colours) becomes a multicolour party that BioLite hopes remind s you of the northern lights. The AlpenGlow lights are definitely two of my favourite new BioLite products and they’re coming in handy in the camper van.

AlpenGlow Battery/Charging

The AlpenGlow’s 3,200mAh/6400 lithium-ion battery charges in 2.5/3 hours via a 5v/2A micro USB connection. It also has a USB-A output that you can use to charge a device. Both sized batteries will give you 5 hours of light in high mode and up to 200 hours in low. The high mode is 250/500 lumens (depending on which model you have), with the low being 2.5/5 lumens.

What’s the difference between the 250 and 500-lumen models?

The 500-lumen model will set you back about $20.00 more, and it gives you twice the brightness. It’s about twice as heavy at 380 grams, takes a little longer to charge fully, and is larger in diameter and height. The 500-lumen model also offers a “fireworks” mode, and its multicolor party mode works all the way around the lantern.

BioLite FirePit Grill Lid- $59.95CAD

For those of you who love the BioLight FirePit but also want to up your grill game, there’s now a grill lid that will allow you to convert your FirePit into a slow-roasting grill. The lid has an adjustable vent to regulate the heat and a pair of folding handles for easy removal. The lid weighs in at about four pounds, is about 6 inches tall, and is made from coated enamel.

New BioLite gear, FirePit, review, grill lid, griddle, alpenglow, toolkitThe lid is a perfect addition to your FirePit, as it opens up several options for cooking.

Used with the griddle (keep reading), you can add items you would bake in an oven at home to your repertoire, and you’ll be able to make so many more dishes for the tailgate party, backyard barbecue, or family camping trip.

BioLite FirePit Griddle- $49.95

This perfectly fit cast iron griddle fits perfectly to the FirePit surface, allowing you to cook pancakes, bacon, and eggs over an open-flame Fire. The griddle is made with a non-stick surface and gives you enough room to make bacon and eggs for two or more at the same time. It has a raised edge to prevent grease or food from falling into the fire area or ground.

New BioLite gear, FirePit, review, grill lid, griddle, alpenglow, toolkitThe griddle weighs in at just under nine pounds and is two inches tall. It’s built to fit within the FirePit area, and you can also place the FirePit Lid over top of it without worry. It’s best to use a smaller flame and low fan for the griddle, as the griddle will hold heat.
Pro tip: You can season your griddle the same way you’d season a cast iron pan, either in the oven or even using the FirePit itself.

BioLite FirePit ToolKit – $39.95

New BioLite gear, FirePit, review, grill lid, griddle, alpenglow, toolkit

If you’ve ever gone camping only to realize you’ve forgotten key utensils, BioLite has you covered with its new camping ToolKit pack. Featuring a Santoku Knife, Slotted Turner, Locking Tongs, and Polyester Tool Roll, these tools are crafted with grilling perfection in mind. With added length in each of Turner and Tong handles, these tools are made to withstand the heat of the flames—and keep your hands away. Easily roll them into a durable, plastic chef’s roll for traveling between setups.
The tools are made from heat-resistant stainless steel and are lightweight. They can be carried inside the FirePit when not in use.

Build Your Own Bundle

BioLight offers a Build Your Own Bundle package that gives you a ten percent discount when you buy four items from the FirePit Family. All the FirePit items mentioned here and the Solar Carry Cover, the FirePit itself, the FireMat, and FirePoker, are eligible for the package discount.

BioLite keeps working to make camping, RVing and vanlife better, and its newest launches will no doubt be popular through the coming holiday season and then into next camping season too.
