Ted. Vacuum. Ted. Vacuum? What if you didn’t have to choose? A floor cleaning robot lets you have it all; clean floors, and you can find out what happens between Roy and Keely. With the new Ecovacs DEEBOT T20 OMNI, you’ll not only get the floors vacuumed, and mopped, but you get all the maintenance taken care of too… plus this new floor cleaning centre has a few new surprises that makes it even better than last year’s Deebot X1 OMNI (which we reviewed and you should absolutely check out too by the way).

In this post, Ecovacs DEEBOT review, we’ll find out what it can do and how well it cleans, plus a few surprising things it can do. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Ecovacs for sponsoring this post. Their support helps us keep the blog and YouTube channel running and for that I’m very grateful. Though they are sponsoring this post, Ecovacs has not told me what I have to say or what I can’t say, and I got to test the bot on my own terms, so you can consider these thoughts my own. While I am going to do a superb job at explaining exactly what this robot can do and describing how well it cleans, the best way for you to understand and see this in action is to watch the video review.

My hands-on video review

What is Ecovacs Deebot T20 OMNI?

In a nutshell this is a robot floor bot that will vacuum and mop; both carpet and floors. But it goes well beyond that. The All-in-one OMNI station is more than just a recharging base; it’s where your bot will empty its onboard dustbin, refill its mopping tank, then wash and dry its mops with hot water and warm air, then do away with the dirty water.

What’s new?

Hot water

That’s one of the newest innovations in this robot… the hot water washing of the mops. We all know a cold shower can serve a purpose, but a hot one is better—not just for you and me, but for our friend DEEBOT here: Ecovacs Deebot T20 OMNI can heat the water to 55 degrees Celsius or 131F so you’re not just getting a light rinse, you’re getting a smart way to kill dirt and banish stains so you’re not constantly wiping dirty mopping pads over the floor.

Not just hot water; this OMNI vaccum  also boasts hot air drying. Using hot air dries the mop faster and more thoroughly, which helps prevent mold and mildew—and four odours.

More suction

Also new is the 6,000pa of suction on this bot; which is an update from the X1 bot which had an already powerful and effective 5,000pa. Expect this floor cleaner to absolutely inhale anything it rolls over.

Intelligent Auto-lift Mopping System

Underside of T20 floor bot showing two fluffy microfibre washing pads.If you’ve done any shopping for robot mopping devices, you’ve probably noticed they are mostly the same; they use a flat mopping pad, which is merely dampened dragged across the floor.

Ecovacs vacuum mop has engineered a better way: dual spinning mopping pads made of plush microfibre that spin and scrub with TURBO power plus downward pressure, making this floor-bot better able to scour away even dried on stains in one pass.

There is also now autolift mopping which the X1 OMNI did not have, and this is a big upgrade that I hoped Ecovacs would add: AutoLift mopping means the bot is smart enough to sense carpet and will lift its mops off the rugs to keep them dry—but it also means there’s no need to remove the mopping pads for vacuuming, as you needed to do with the X1. Thanks to the Intelligent Auto-lift Mopping System, DEEBOT T20 can swap between vacuum-only, mop-only, vacuum while mopping, and vacuum before mopping mode, and clean everything in one pass, all without any help from you.

Better Edge Deep Cleaning

Ecovacs Deebot T20 OMNI has a new Edge Deep Cleaning function where DEEBOT rotates its body to reach deeper into corners meaning less need for you to go in for touchups.

Unboxing and Set up

In my experience with several Ecovacs bots, set up is easy and it was here too. Unpack your bot and take a look at what you get:

  • There’s the sleek OMNI station where the clean and dirty water plus the sealed vacuum disposal bag are housed
  • The DEEBOT T20 robot
  • There’s two corner brushes which you’ll just snap into place on the bot
  • There’s also a scrub brush and a multifunction cutter for maintenance.

Flat lay of all items from the ecovacs box including microfibre brushes, cleaning tools and robot.Plug in the All-in-one OMNI station and place the DEEBOT on the base to charge up. Meantime, download the Ecovacs Home app and sign up for or sign into your account. When it’s ready you’ll power the bot on, and follow the in-app instructions to connect to Wi-Fi. My bot was connected and ready in minutes.

The first order of business is to let the bot map your house. It will do this in one pass as it did accurately for me, and won’t take long, but depends on the size of your house.

Mapping for remote and smart control

With that map you get all kinds of additional functionality, like being able to do room specific cleaning, to schedule certain rooms to be cleaned on certain days. Plus, that smart mapping and space recognition using real-time 3D scanning and detection means DEEBOT can avoid objects and hazards like few other robots I’ve ever tried. I placed some object tests for it to see if I could trip it up and the bot was always able to avoid trouble.

This is actually a pretty big point; if a robot can’t avoid obstacles, it gets stuck and can’t finish its clean, meaning it becomes more work and a lot less efficient for you. In my opinion having reviewed dozens of floor bots, you want to make sure whichever one you choose has superior ability to avoid tangles and stalls, like the Ecovacs Deebot T20 OMNI.

How well does DEEBOT T20 OMNI clean?

To the important part of this review: how well does this robot floor device clean? I put all my robot vacuums and mops through precisely the same tests. I spread things like flour, rice, oats and cracker crumbs on both carpet and hard floors. I pour out some liquids too for mopping tests and let things like coffee and wine spills dry.

The first time I sent my robot out, I asked Ed to clean the entire house. I have to say I was extremely impressed with the job that it did. It vacuumed up every visible crumb, and polished the floors to a gleaming shine. I decided to move on to more dedicated testing to get a closer look at the T20 in action.

Overhead shot shoeing Ecovacs deebot t20 omni mopping the floor; floor is glossy from the water. With the vacuuming… the DEEBOT T20’s powerful suction inhales everything it comes across. On hard floors, some bots can scatter loose debris, but the T20 is able to corral it and feed it into the onboard dustbin for later disposal in the OMNI station.

On carpet the rubber brush combined with 6000Pa suction power, is able to power dirt from deeper in the fibres. I was extremely happy with how well the pot vacuumed.

With the mopping, since this bot is powered by the OZMO Turbo 2.0 Rotating Mopping system, it has an amazing ability to scrub dried on dirt—even in just one pass.

DEEBOT applies consistent pressure to the mops pressing them into the floor for deep cleaning, and outstanding scouring ability for even stubborn stains— even for these coffee stains I let dry over 72-hours.

Clears tall thresholds

I also tested the robot vacuum and  mop lifting capabilities, and I can confirm the mops didn’t dampen my carpets and rugs at all. And speaking of lifting, DEEBOT T20 OMNI recognizes and travels over flooring thresholds up to 20mm/.79-inches so it can get to areas a lot of other floor bots can’t.

Smart-Charge Continuous Cleaning

Especially if you have a larger space, running out of power before a clean is done is a real possibility. Ecovacs deals with this by installing a large 5200mAh Battery, and combining that with its ‘recharge and resume’ feature. This means the bot will clean until it’s time to recharge, then return to base to get enough juice to finish the job.

Once it calculates that it has enough power to finish, the DEEBOT T20 gets back to cleaning right where it left off. You can even set quiet times and the bot will wait until everyone has woken up for the day to resume work.

Voice Control: use Google & Alexa or, meet Yiko

Front view of the Deebot showing its navigation camera window. If you are a Google Home or Amazon Echo user, you can connect either of these smart home hubs to your robot, and use your voice to task it with when and where to start cleaning. I found this connectivity worked quite well. You just need to link your bot inside either the Google or Alexa app first, then say things like, “OK Alexa, tell T20 OMNI to start cleaning”.

ECOVACS’s Yiko voice assistant makes a return in this bot too and it’s as good as my first tests with it when I tried it with the X1 OMNI: Yiko understands natural language and responds very well to commands. It even has a really cool feature where you can go to a specific spot in your house where you need a clean, and using what’s called Voice Distance Recognition, you can say, “Ok Yiko, clean this spot” and Yiko will know where “this spot” is in your home because of that voice distance recognition.

Overall review: ECOVACS DEEBOT T20 OMNI

The ECOVACS DEEBOT T20 OMNI is an impressive floor bot that automates everything. It not only vacuums and mops, it replenishes its water tank for mopping, and cleans the mopping pads more effectively with hot water and dries them with warm air too to keep odors away. Of course the T20 OMNI will empty its own dustbin and refill its mop tanks as needed. The All-in-one OMNI station meanwhile is beautifully designed too.

The DEEBOT T20 runs quietly, it’s got even better suction and long battery life and it is absolutely best in class, cleaning both wet and dry messes on hard floors or carpets .

When it comes to the downsides, all this technology is perhaps not surprisingly expensive, and the OMNI station does have a large footprint that takes up substantial space.

I am a huge fan of the Ecovacs brand, and I can definitely say they have another winner here with the DEEBOT T20 OMNI. I can absolutely recommend this as the best floor cleaning bot of 2023.

My unit was basically DOA so this review is really about customer service. They have been great. My story: I adopted Yiko two days ago. I had her do a quick map and she did a great job, and much faster than her previous Ecovacs family. I used her to vac only and she quit 20 min into the job. Yiko screamed out “Anti-drop sensor dirty” then just sat motionless. I cleaned her sensors and tried several more times but no luck. At one point, Yiko went on a rampage pushing bar stools around yelling something about her “bumper”. Seems her bumper wasn’t recognizing objects and she kept on truckin’. I called Ecovacs, and after a few emails to diagnose, they are replacing Yiko, hopefully with a better behaved sibling. I am hoping I can just send her, as opposed to her and her entire house.  We’ll see.
